The collection is the personal collection of Vic Faulkner who was a councillor on the Lae Town Council from the inaugural meeting in 1971 until 1974. The collection includes the Lae Town Council inaugural election political material for 1971 ; Lae Town Council, Standing Orders Committee - references and resources for 1971 ; Inaugural meeting, Lae Town Council, 1971 and Minutes (including some Executive Finance Minutes) from April 1971 - 7 August 1974 ; the 15th and 17th Morobe District Councils Conferences, Lae ; Minutes of the Lae Chamber of Commerce, 26 January - 9 February 1971 ; Establishment of Area Authority - Morobe District Area (Province), 21 December 1972 - 13 December 1972.

The collection includes papers, photographs, slides, negatives and contact prints relating to archaeological fieldwork in Papua New Guinea: in Lake Kopiago, Western Highlands District, Papua New Guinea (1967 and 1973) ; Kosipe, Central District (1964 and 1967) ; Irian-Jaya (May - June 1983) ; Brooker Island, Louisade Archipelago (1967) ; New Ireland (1969 - 1990) ; Balof 1 (1988) ; Balof 2 (1990) ; New Ireland (1988 - 1994) ; New Britain (2001).

The series contains many subject folders arranged by Standish before his death. Electoral politics in Chimbu province of Papua New Guinea are a major component of the series, which contains many candidate posters and other electoral ephemera, especially from 2007. There are also material concerning HIV/AIDS in the region, the Bougainville Emergency and subsequent peace process, and a quantity of correspondence, personal in nature but touching on politics in PNG.
The series also contains a significant quantity of maps, especially of Chimbu province.

There are correspondence and administrative files as well as ‘author’ files created by editors Justine Molony and Duncan Beard which contain correspondence with authors and the original manuscript submitted. There is a copy of each publication produced from 2001 to 2006 and promotional material including a book of reviews.

This collection comprises the research papers of K L Gillion, created primarily during his PhD thesis research at the Australian National University. These include handwritten notes, annotated publications, and datasets on Indian indenture and indentured labourers in Fiji, and the activities of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (CSR).

Applications to the Century Farm and Station Awards include details of current and past owners, original land grant or purchase, buildings and improvements, accompanied by copies of family histories, photographs and maps.

Papers of Hal K. Colebatch and Peta Colebatch. The former was an Australian political scientist who taught in Papua New Guinea in the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, and was involved in the independence movement and subsequently electoral matters in the new state. His spouse Peta was a researcher and later a consumer advocate. The series consists mostly of subject files arranged by the Colebatches, plus a significant quantity of research papers by a variety of authors, mostly unpublished, on the subjects of Papua New Guinea, its independence from Australia in 1975, and related military matters, especially with respect to the Pacific Islands Regiment which moved from Australian to PNG service at the time. These latter were an object of detailed study by Peta Colebatch, who used the material for her 1974 dissertation “To find a path : the Army in Papua New Guinea.”

Among the highlights of the collection are the detailed interview notes and transcripts of over one hundred Australian ex-servicemen in Papua New Guinea. The series also contains materials relating to Papua New Guinea’s Rural Improvement Program, which was studied by H. K. Colebatch around 1975-76.

The series contains the research materials of Timothy Macnaught on the history of Fiji. It consists primarily of his handwritten research notes, which he made on index cards, especially during his fieldwork in Fiji in the early to mid-1970s. These include research for his PhD thesis (Australian National University, 1975), and a folder of work for a study of controversial Fijian leader Apolosi Nawai (1876–1946).

There are also reproductions of historic sources and a small number of drafts or other writings by other authors on subjects relevant to the history of Fiji.

A significant portion of the series is in the Fijian language.

This collection of documents and images relating to Gordon Thomas's time in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea includes correspondence with the Department of External Territories regarding persons lost on the Montevideo Maru and proclamations from the Chief of the Japanese Army during the Japanese occuptaion of Rabaul. Photographs from the 1910s and 1930s are of people and places in German New Guinea.

These publications were produced by different units of the University and transferred to the Archives at various times. This series has not yet been digitised.

The index cards were prepared by Lewis during his research for a Master of Arts thesis on the early history of the Canberra University College and the Australian National University. There is a list of material he consulted at the Commonwealth Archives Office (now the National Archives) at the front of the first box which also indicates the original order in which the cards were maintained.

This is a master set of press releases which were called ‘For the Press’, ‘Information for News Media’ and ‘Media Releases’ at various times. Most of the annual binders are indexed. The early press releases include a small amount of related correspondence, draft releases, press cuttings, the text of addresses given to special ceremonies and honour citations. Releases for 1999–2000 are not included and there are gaps for 2001–2002. Some press releases for 1968 are indexed but missing from the folder.
