Also included is Gunson's personal family history research on the Gunson, Eastes/D'Estes, Wright, Woollard, Loud, and Nelson families, including correspondence with relatives, bound publications, indexes, and handwritten research notes. This collection includes medical, scientific, and government papers and publications relating to Dr Scragg's work, mostly in Papua New Guinea during his Tenure as Director of Public Health, the majority circa 1950-1970. This collection also contains working papers, correspondence, photographs, and some papers of Scragg's wife, Joy.

This series consists largely of academic research materials accumulated by Oram from 1962 onwards, and pertains to Papua New Guinea, especially Port Moresby - about which Oram wrote a book, Colonial town to Melanesian city : Port Moresby, 1884–1974 - and the nearby coastal Hula region. There is also a significant amount of material for a study of Reginald Edward Guise, Grandfather of Sir John Guise, first governor-general of independent Papua New Guinea.

A highlight of the collection is the photographic material. In addition of Oram's own photographs of 1960s Port Moresby, there are several albums of remarkable photographs by A. C. English and others of Papua New Guinea c.1900.

In addition to the Spriggs papers, this donation also contained the papers of Richard Shutler, Les Groube, and Aubrey Parke, which have been removed and are now ANUA 765, 766, and 767, respectively.

Solomon Islands files collected and/or collated by subject by James Tedder. The files include the following subjects, bird life, census, national parks, the Moro Movement, land use and issues, the Solomon Islands museum, the Solomon Islands library, local government, education and broadcasting. Also includes two photograph albums on the Solomon Islands.

Papers of Hal K. Colebatch and Peta Colebatch. The former was an Australian political scientist who taught in Papua New Guinea in the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, and was involved in the independence movement and subsequently electoral matters in the new state. His spouse Peta was a researcher and later a consumer advocate. The series consists mostly of subject files arranged by the Colebatches, plus a significant quantity of research papers by a variety of authors, mostly unpublished, on the subjects of Papua New Guinea, its independence from Australia in 1975, and related military matters, especially with respect to the Pacific Islands Regiment which moved from Australian to PNG service at the time. These latter were an object of detailed study by Peta Colebatch, who used the material for her 1974 dissertation “To find a path : the Army in Papua New Guinea.”

Among the highlights of the collection are the detailed interview notes and transcripts of over one hundred Australian ex-servicemen in Papua New Guinea. The series also contains materials relating to Papua New Guinea’s Rural Improvement Program, which was studied by H. K. Colebatch around 1975-76.

Documents relating to McGrath's work as a land consultant, particularly regarding regions in Micronesia.

Contains research papers, academic articles, speeches, diaries, correspondence and government publications on the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Seychelles. Papers re general Pacific Islands matters, including Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand and the South Pacific Commission, constitutional development, and press cuttings. The collection was compiled by Allan during his time as an administrator in these Islands and as a researcher.

The series includes administrative files maintained by Davidson as Professor of Pacific History and Dean of the Research School of Pacific Studies, dealing with staff including appointments, students, the Coombs building, the New Guinea Research Unit and committees of which Davidson was a member. There are two files which include material about his death. There are also research files which include correspondence, research notes, press cuttings from the Fiji Times, South Pacific Commission papers, articles by Davidson and others, and typescript copies of his Peter Dillon biography and Samoa mo Samoa. There are also parliamentary debates from Samoa and Kiribati and photographs related to the four-volume book 'Pacific Islands' published in 1943-1945.

Personal records of Gow's life in Papua New Guinea including paper files, film (8mm, 9.5mm and 35mm), photographs and slides, transparencies, paintings and ephemera. Also includes family records. Description of film reels are based on frames at the beginning of each reel and not indicative of the entire content of the film.

The collection was made by James Sinclair in 1973 -1974 from files held by TPNG District Administration, Konedobu. It includes patrol reports, station journals and district annual reports (including selected memoranda), together with various other reports, reviews and studies with detailed indexes compiled by Bob Cole listing patrol number and date, patrol officer and area patrolled, photocopies and some original documents held in binders, departmental correspondence and reports and manuscripts and publications, collected by James Sinclair, together with some Department of District Administration confidential files, and Sinclair’s notes on various archives and secondary sources.

Includes documents given to James Sinclair by Sir John Gunther, J.K. McCarthy, Robert Cole and the family of Sir Donald Cleland.

This series comprises of O'Neill's personal research and work materials compiled during her work in Papua New Guinea, as well as reports, minutes, and materials of the Papua New Guinea Social Workers Association and Council of Social Service of Papua, organisations in which O'Neill was heavily involved. Also included are letters and study materials belonging to friend and peer Michael Robert Grey from his year of study as a Cadet Patrol Officer in Papua New Guinea in 1963.

The collection covers the period 1962 to 1976, when John Duffield was a Patrol Officer, Political Education Officer and District Government Liaison Officer with the Australian Public Service in Papua New Guinea. Included are Field Officer Journals from 1972 to 1976; several Patrol Reports and a very large collection of letters, circulars, reports, telegrams, ephemera, patrol instructions and comments on patrol reports; declarations of Local Government Council elections; as well as many personal records including his appointment as a Local Government advisor; an acceptance letter to ASOPA (the Australian School of Pacific Studies); his appointment letter as a Cadet Patrol Officer and appointment as a Magistrate for Native Matters. There are copies of the 'Black and White Magazine' and posters and ephemera relating to self-government and Independence. Rare publications include: the Western Highlands District Agricultural Society Mount Hagen Show Handbook for the Fourth District Show, dated 1967; Recipe book - 'Entertaining in Papua and New Guinea', published by the Boroko Branch of the Country Women's Association, 2nd Edition, 1968; and the Third South Pacific Games Souvenir Cookery Book, c.1969.

Of particular significance are booklets produced for the Independence celebrations in Port Moresby in 1975, including booklets on the 'State Welcome & Flag Lowering', 'Sport & Culture', 'Royal Tour', 'Guriguri Hebou', 'Bikpela Lotu, 'Flag Raising', 'Installation & Constitutional Ceremonies', 'State opening of the First National Parliament', 16 September 1975, 'Official Programme'.

The collection includes one album of photographs covering the period.

Drawings of designs for University House furniture and fixtures by designer Fred Ward.

Material relating mostly to Pari and Pari Village Study but also Papua New Guinea in general, particularly health and medical services. Includes research papers, photographs, genetics data, genealogical charts and notes, correspondence, notebooks, clinical data print-outs, serials, audio tapes, video tapes, CDs, index cards and maps. Material relates mostly to health of Pari people and medical services but includes material relating to a wide variety of subjects including genealogy, genetics, geography, Pari Church, anthropology, language, education, legends and stories, history, children and culture. Also includes material relating to Hiri, Motu and Koita people. Includes material in Pari and Motu languages.

The series contains many subject folders arranged by Standish before his death. Electoral politics in Chimbu province of Papua New Guinea are a major component of the series, which contains many candidate posters and other electoral ephemera, especially from 2007. There are also material concerning HIV/AIDS in the region, the Bougainville Emergency and subsequent peace process, and a quantity of correspondence, personal in nature but touching on politics in PNG.
The series also contains a significant quantity of maps, especially of Chimbu province.

Contains chiefly material relating to the Gender Relations Centre at ANU, which Jolly headed until 2009, and the Australian Association for the Advancement of Pacific Studies (AAAPS), including publications, conference organization, correspondence, and the development of edited volumes.

This is an artificial collection of records, publications, both printed and audiovisual, and memorabilia associated with the celebration of the University’s fiftieth anniversary in 1996. It was assembled by the Pro-Chancellor Pauline Griffin and Giles Pickford in the Public Affairs Division who were involved in organising the celebrations. The material has been boxed in acid-free document cases and each of these has been treated as an item.

The collection consists of research works and papers by Shineberg; files of general research material arranged by subject including Andrew Cheyne's Trading Voyages, cargo cults, decolonisation, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Kiribati/Gilbert Islands, pacific labour trade, Marquesas Islands, Micronesia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Vanuatu (formerly New Hebrides); undergraduate teaching resources and lectures; correspondence (including with Bronwen Douglas), photographs, computer disks, microfilm prints, material related to Shineberg's career, copies of archival material dating from the 18th century, card indexes and miscellaneous reprints.

This collection relates primarily to Dr Price’s work in the Department of Demography from 1952 to 1985. It includes correspondence files, research files, statistical compilations, computer printouts, index cards to research materials, press cuttings, publications and copies of lectures and articles. There are files relating to Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs projects and to Price’s membership of the National Population Council, the Immigration Advisory Council, the Good Neighbour Council ACT, the Australian Council of Churches’ Refugee Advisory Council, and the Burgmann College Council, and some departmental administrative files.

Includes annual reports, correspondence, meeting minutes and other administrative papers relating to the Department of Human Geography. Also includes, interviews with Professor Oskar Spate.

This is a very miscellaneous collection of papers attributed to Professor Bob Gollan, including material sent to him 'for the Archives' such as Alex Dowling's draft history of the trade union movement in Newcastle and a transcript of an oral history session at a departmental seminar on The Depression.

1 album of 40 black and white photographs taken by a miner associated with the Astrolable mineral field and the Laloki and Dubuna Mines near Port Moresby. The photographs were taken between 1918 and 1924 and include images of mining operations, storage facilities and a tramway, staff housing for the New Guinea Copper Mine, as well as the general images of the landscape and everyday events, including Rouna Falls, Bootless Bay, farming, harvesting and ploughing, a coconut plantation at Bautama (Bootless Inlet) and a funeral procession.

The drawings are for furniture particularly for University House, but there are also photographs of chairs and other furniture at University House, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and Bruce Hall. Two stained glass designs by G Kellock of Ballarat have been retained though their significance is unclear.

This series consists of research materials generated by Hank Driessen on the topic of Polynesian history from the pre-contact period to mid-19th century, focusing on French Polynesia, Fiji, and Hawai'i. Much of it consists of research notebooks filled with extracts from archival materials handwritten by Driessen during visits to international research libraries. A notable component is an extensive series of index cards of primary source extracts arranged chronologically by year from 1769 to 1852.

Note that the PDF is no longer up to date (use the ATOM list instead) but is retained because it contains a very detailed breakdown of some of the item contents.

This series contains material generated by Jack Golson, together with Philip Hughes, Marjorie Sullivan and Chris Ballard, at Yonki in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands in the 1980s prior to the flooding of the region by the Yonki hydroelectric dam project (constructed 1986-1991).

This series chiefly working materials of David Hyndman (plus a few holiday photos). This include a large body of slides and photographs generated largely during field work in Papua New Guinea among Wopkaimin speakers in the mid 1970s and again in the early 1980s while studying the environmental impact of the Ok Tedi mine. There is also photographic material from the Philippines, focused on the southern Cotabato region. Hyndman also recorded some twenty-nine audio cassettes during his early field work in Papua New Guinea - these include songs, storytelling, and zoological samples. e.g. frog calls. His recordings are cross referenced and sometimes transcribed in his field notebooks, of which over forty are included in this series. In addition the series contains preparatory material for publications and botanical information.

The series also contains material generated by others, notably ethnologist Wilson Wheatcroft, who provided Hyndman with translations of traditional stories and legends of the Tifalmin people of Papua New Guinea.

The series contains the research materials of Timothy Macnaught on the history of Fiji. It consists primarily of his handwritten research notes, which he made on index cards, especially during his fieldwork in Fiji in the early to mid-1970s. These include research for his PhD thesis (Australian National University, 1975), and a folder of work for a study of controversial Fijian leader Apolosi Nawai (1876–1946).

There are also reproductions of historic sources and a small number of drafts or other writings by other authors on subjects relevant to the history of Fiji.

A significant portion of the series is in the Fijian language.

Photographs of Fiji from an employee of the Colonial Sugar Refinery at Labasa, Fiji, originally in two albums. Removed from the original albums for conservation purposes. Items 1-65 are photographs from a 'Postcard album' and most are printed to be postcards. Items 66-89 were in a separate photograph album.

Correspondence and other papers relating to Kioloa, the Edith and Joy London Foundation and ANU; historical material, ledgers, journals, newspaper cuttings, printed material, transcripts of tape recordings, photographs, microfilm reels and slides.

The series contains original material generated by Mitton, including field notes, diaries, drawings, research papers, correspondence, and ~4000 slides in colour. The material is from Mitton’s time as a prospector and researcher in the region then known as Irian Jaya (now divided between six Indonesian provinces, and also commonly called West Papua), as well as from Papua New Guinea, where he worked for the National Cultural Council (1975-1976). The material mostly pertains to indigenous people visited by Mitton, including the Asmat and Dani peoples, as well as groups from Paniai and Northeast regions and Lake Sentani.

The series also contains material generated by the Robert Mitton Publication Committee, which was formed by friends of Mitton after his death in 1977. Administrated by Sue Galley, the committee’s efforts culminated in the publication of The Lost World of Irian Jaya in 1983. The material consists of book drafts, editorial and revision notes, correspondence (especially with publishers), technical materials, photographs made from Mitton’s slides and other materials pursuant to the publication of the book. Because the Robert Mitton Publication Committee made heavy and continuous use of Mitton’s originals, the material is interspersed throughout the series.

The collection is the personal collection of Vic Faulkner who was a councillor on the Lae Town Council from the inaugural meeting in 1971 until 1974. The collection includes the Lae Town Council inaugural election political material for 1971 ; Lae Town Council, Standing Orders Committee - references and resources for 1971 ; Inaugural meeting, Lae Town Council, 1971 and Minutes (including some Executive Finance Minutes) from April 1971 - 7 August 1974 ; the 15th and 17th Morobe District Councils Conferences, Lae ; Minutes of the Lae Chamber of Commerce, 26 January - 9 February 1971 ; Establishment of Area Authority - Morobe District Area (Province), 21 December 1972 - 13 December 1972.

There are correspondence and administrative files as well as ‘author’ files created by editors Justine Molony and Duncan Beard which contain correspondence with authors and the original manuscript submitted. There is a copy of each publication produced from 2001 to 2006 and promotional material including a book of reviews.

This collection comprises the research papers of K L Gillion, created primarily during his PhD thesis research at the Australian National University.
