This collection of documents and images relating to Gordon Thomas's time in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea includes correspondence with the Department of External Territories regarding persons lost on the Montevideo Maru and proclamations from the Chief of the Japanese Army during the Japanese occuptaion of Rabaul. Photographs from the 1910s and 1930s are of people and places in German New Guinea.

Paper files containing research material on people included in and considered for inclusion in the Australian Dictionary of Biography. Includes research notes; copies of birth, death and marriage certificates; drafts of articles; correspondence between authors and editors and corrigenda.

These publications were produced by different units of the University and transferred to the Archives at various times. This series has not yet been digitised.

The index cards were prepared by Lewis during his research for a Master of Arts thesis on the early history of the Canberra University College and the Australian National University. There is a list of material he consulted at the Commonwealth Archives Office (now the National Archives) at the front of the first box which also indicates the original order in which the cards were maintained.

These are copies of speeches given on campus on various occasions including the John Curtin Memorial Lectures and conferring of degrees ceremonies.

This is a master set of press releases which were called ‘For the Press’, ‘Information for News Media’ and ‘Media Releases’ at various times. Most of the annual binders are indexed. The early press releases include a small amount of related correspondence, draft releases, press cuttings, the text of addresses given to special ceremonies and honour citations. Releases for 1999–2000 are not included and there are gaps for 2001–2002. Some press releases for 1968 are indexed but missing from the folder.

The folders include teaching material and departmental papers relating to the Philosophy Department in the Canberra University College and from 1960, the School of General Studies in the Australian National University.

This collection is of photographs, press cuttings and audiovisual material from the North Australia Research Unit (NARU), an ANU facility located in Darwin. It comprises mostly photographic prints, with some negatives, in five albums, two scrapbooks of material about NARU as well as the Northern Territory generally, and two films taken in 1974 (after Cyclone Tracy) and 1976, along with an audiotape commentary. The photographs range in subject from official visits and fieldwork to social functions, and many are not individually listed.

Many of the files relate to the Library Committee, including minutes, agenda and working papers as well as other administrative matters.

The drawings are for furniture particularly for University House, but there are also photographs of chairs and other furniture at University House, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and Bruce Hall. Two stained glass designs by G Kellock of Ballarat have been retained though their significance is unclear.

This series contains vocabularies, dictionaries and grammars of the languages of the area in which Twomey worked.

Contains 77 mainly colour slide transparencies, many taken by Bob Cooper, of the campus and also copies of older photographs of ceremonies and events as background information for an introductory training course in the Administrative Development Program.

Many of the files relate to the Library Committee, including minutes, agenda and working papers from 1960 to 1987. There are also files about significant events, ‘Library Archives’ and ‘Library History’ files, and files about the Asian Studies Division of the library. Single numbers have been imposed because many files bear the same alphanumeric number.

This was the main ANU correspondence file series from 1950 to 2000, usually known as ‘Central Files’. It contains some earlier material top-numbered from the first ANU file series (ANUA 18) as well as many files of the Canberra University College (ANUA 42) from 1930 to 1960. These files were incorporated in the series by the former Registrar of the Canberra University College Thomas Owen. The files were originally controlled by a card index and file register – the information contained in these was transferred to a computerised keyword index in 1975 and in 2006 to the current Central Records System. The multiple numbers consist of a primary subject often representing a Research School, Faculty or other organisational unit, a secondary number representing a function and then the next sequential number allocated to a particular file.     Many personnel files were raised in this series either under the general ‘4.2 Staff appointments’ or under the secondary ‘staff’ function of particular organisational units. These files are controlled in a separate series of staff files (ANUA 19) from several different series. This series was superseded by an annual single number series in 2000 (ANUA 239).

This is the main correspondence file series of the University so deals with many topics relating to administration, research, teaching and learning, student progress and student services. It replaced the former multiple number series (ANUA 53).

Annotated articles and correspondence collected by Campbell. Topics include dipnoan fishes (lungfish), the evolution of cranial features and different classifications of organisms.

This collection includes correspondence, diaries, printed memorabilia, menus from the Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes, slides of the New Hebrides taken between 1963 - 1970 and slides of Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) taken in 1963.

Images are of Banaba (Ocean Island) in the Pacific near Kiribati. They show island scenes and views of the phosphate mining that occurred on Banaba.

This is a scrap book containing newspaper clippings, photographs and other documents about the 1978 expedition to the Himalayas during which members climbed Mt Dunagiri.

Includes teaching material regarding vertebrate and invertebrate palaeontology, and Stratigraphy mainly focused on Australia. Teaching material is mainly lecture notes and overhead projector slides of diagrams, with some example of laboratory practical and tutorial questions. Includes some information regarding fieldwork trips to Kioloa. Examples used for teaching include historical and current species of lungfish.

The files relate to Professor Reid's research and teaching in Southeast Asian Studies principally at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at the Australian National University including material about departmental reviews and publications, correspondence with fellow academics, and engagement with Southeast Asia through the Australian Development Assistance Agency, the Australian Academy of the Humanities and other organisations.

The collection has a strong emphasis on Papua New Guinea and Myanmar, but includes other countries - Thailand, Cambodia, China and Africa. Photographs of people, family groups, villages with some place names - Goilala, Baruni, Eastern Highlands, Kimbe, Yuli. Some material includes data from the Hagahai people of Papua New Guinea.

This collection relates primarily to Dr Price’s work in the Department of Demography from 1952 to 1985. It includes correspondence files, research files, statistical compilations, computer printouts, index cards to research materials, press cuttings, publications and copies of lectures and articles. There are files relating to Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs projects and to Price’s membership of the National Population Council, the Immigration Advisory Council, the Good Neighbour Council ACT, the Australian Council of Churches’ Refugee Advisory Council, and the Burgmann College Council, and some departmental administrative files.

Contents consist of files arranged chronologically relating to Dr Margaret Steven's early education, employment, university administration and research work. It includes correspondence relating to publications and exhibitions that Margaret Steven worked on including entries for the Australian Dictionary of Biography, the 'Great Australians' series, and publications on Merchant Campbell. Box 1 contents date from 1945 - 1998; box 2 contents date from 1996 - 2014. Testamurs for her Honours degree and Doctorate are included in box 2.

These sound recordings cover School of Art lectures and workshops given by various artists from 1983 to 2005.

Records of Nigel Lendon's research, teaching and art practice including diaries, research notes, photographs, slides, recordings, posters, reference works, correspondence and journal publications. The records relate to Lendon's own practice and exhibitions, curatorial work on the Wagilag Sisters and Afghan war rugs exhibitions, art theory and art history, and outsider artists including Slim Barrie. There are records of his association with the Art Workers' Union.

This album contains photographs of campus and student life taken by Australian Forestry School student Brian Moore in the late 1940s.

The binders contain reports from examiners of PhD theses and their recommendations for awarding a degree and for prizes.

The material relates to linguistics research in Papua New Guinea and includes notebooks, articles, transcripts, and texts on Koiari, Koita, Mountain Koiari, Barai, Mangalasi, Aomie (Omie), Rigo, Police Motu (Hiri Motu) and Tok Pisin (New Guinea Pidgin English).

The collection includes fifty field notebooks, as well as research notes, correspondence, offprints, photographs, negatives and aerial photographs related to his research in the Pacific region, including the countries - Papua New Guinea and Bougainville, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu (formerly New Hebrides), New Caledonia, Fiji and The Philippines. The photographs in this collection have not been listed. They can be found in box 6 (1 Type 5 box) and in boxes 7 - 10 (4 grey albums).

The staff files record staff appointments, promotion, travel, conditions of service and resignation/retirement. Only files of senior academic and administrative staff are retained. Files of Chancellors and Creative Arts Fellows are also included. It is an artificial series bringing together staff files from an earlier single number series, the multiple number Central Files (ANUA 53) and the annual single number Central Files (ANUA 239). An alphabetical list by surname indicates the box in which the file is located. File suffixes include A=Annex and C=Confidential.

There are four copies of the album: one appears to be a file copy as it includes a list of photograph numbers in the back. Another is annotated to say that it was used in the London Office 1949-1952 (approx.). It is likely that the albums were compiled to show prospective staff members the facilities available at the University and in Canberra, as there are photographs of buildings, homes, churches, schools and recreational facilities. The 41 black and white photographs were taken by the Commonwealth Department of Information and are endorsed with a single number with L prefix so are closely related to a National Archives' series of photographs (CRS A1200).
