Caption on the reverse of the photograph: "These are 3 of the Labasa Police (Fijians) what do you think of them? They are the only Fijians policemen up here; the others are all Indians. Mr Jones took these photos which are speaking likenesses. The two outside boys have been here a long time but the one in the centre is just new". Captions reflect the attitudes of the author at the time they were written, and do not reflect the values of the archives. These photographs were taken during 1909-1910, when Owen was working for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company in Fiji at Labasa, and printed on postcards.
