Queensland Mining Council

Formed following the amalgamation of the Queensland Coal Association and the Queensland Chamber of Mines c. 1992. The Queensland Mining Council represented employees, employers and operators in the Queensland mining industry.

The Queensland Mining Council discontinued the provision of industrial relations services in 1998. This service was continued by the senior industrial relations advisor, Graham Gillespie, through the establishment of the consultancy firm Gillespie Consulting Services Pty Ltd.

The Queensland Mining Council became the Queensland Resources Council in Nov 2003, expanding its membership to also include explorers, mineral processors, contractors, oil and gas producers and electricity generators.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries

The association was inaugurated as the Federal Council of the Chambers of Automotive Industries in July 1939 and changed its name to the Federal Council of Automotive Industries in 1943. The association is registered as the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries since 10 January 1980.

Adelaide Chamber of Commerce Incorporated

Three years after the foundation of the Colony of South Australia in 1836, the Adelaide Chamber of Commerce was formed. Its first two presidents were Jack Barton Hack and John Morphett. In 1907 the Chamber had 133 members and its management was entrusted to a General Committee of 18 members. In 1972 the Chamber merged with the South Australian Chamber of Manufactures Incorporated to form the Chamber of Commerce & Industry South Australia Inc (1972 - 1993).

Australian Council of Furniture Manufacturers

Australian Council of Furniture Manufacturers was established prior to being formerly registered in Queensland in 1986. The Association represented the Furniture Manufacturers of Australia comprising the Queensland Guild of Furniture Manufacturers, the New South Wales Guild of Furniture Manufacturers, the South Australia Guild of Furniture Manufacturers, the Western Australia Guild of Manufacturers, the Tasmanian Guild of Manufacturers and the Victorian Guild of Manufacturers Ltd. It was restructured in 1989 as the Furniture Manufacturers Association of Australia Ltd which registered in the Australian Capital Territory on 13 September 1989.

Australian Wool Industry Conference

The Australian Wool Industry Conference was formed in 1962 as a result of meetings of the Australian Woolgrowers & Graziers Council with the Australian Wool & Meat Producers Federation. In 1966 the Australian Primary Producers Union's Wool Section joined the Conference. It worked closely with the Australian Wool Board, and its successors, the Australian Wool Commission and the Australian Wool Corporation, and the International Wool Secretariat. In 1980 the AWIC was amalgamated with the Wool Council of Australia.

Australian Retailers' Association

The Australian Retailers' Association was formed in 1974 by major retailers and various state retail associations in an effort to improve the image of the Australian Council of Retailers (formed in 1940). In 1989 the name was changed to the Retail Traders Associations of Australia and in 1991 it was changed to the Retail Council of Australia (RCA). Further amalgamations took place in 1998 to restructure the organisation into a national body under the the Australian Retailers Association.

Australian Timber Industry Stabilisation Conference

The Australian Timber Industry Stabilisation Conference (AusTIS) was originally formed in 1943 as the Eastern States Timber Industry Stabilisation Conference (ESTIS). It changed its name to AusTIS in 1959 when the membership was expanded to bring together the timber industry with state and commonwealth government forest services, and organisations representing the industry within Papua New Guinea.

Australian Dairy Products Federation

The Australian Dairy Products Federation is the peak policy body representing the interests of commercial or non-farm members of the Australian dairy industry who are engaged in the manufacture, marketing or trading of dairy products and/or dairy related products. It was incorporated on 23 April 1987.

Chamber of Automotive Industries of New South Wales Incorporated

The Association was known as the Motor Vehicle Importers Association of NSW until 6 July 1923 when it became the Chamber of Automotive Industries of NSW Inc. It was affiliated with the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and organised the annual Sydney Motor Show before winding up in December 1997.

Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New South Wales

The forerunner of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New South Wales was the New South Wales Chinese Merchants' Society (1903 - 1912). It became the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New South Wales in 1913. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of NSW maintained close relations with the republican government of China until China declined into civil war in the 1920s.

Professional Divers’ Association of Australasia

The Professional Divers' Association of Australasia (PDAA) was established in May 1969 at a meeting of several divers, dissatisfied over the lack of job security in the diving industry, workplace health and safety issues, and the significantly lower wages received by Australian divers compared to their overseas counterparts. Despite starting from a low membership base, the union achieved registration in 1971 and operated until 1991 when it amalgamated with the Seamen's Union of Australia (SUA). In 1993 the SUA merged with the Waterside Workers' Federation of Australia (WWF) to form the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA).

The Australian Wheatgrowers' Federation was registered federally in 1930 and operated until 1979 when it amalgamated with Australian Vegetable Growers' Association, the Australian Wool and Meat Producers' Federation, the Australian National Cattlemen's Council, the Cattlemen's Union of Australia, the Australian Seed Producers' Federation, the Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council, and the Australian Farmers' Federation. The amalgamation formed a new peak body, the National Farmers Federation.

Employers' Federation of New South Wales

The Employers' Federation of NSW was founded in 1903 as an employers group. It later became a national organisation and renamed Employers First, changing again to the Australian Federation of Employers and Industries (AFEI) in 2008.

Automotive Products Manufacturers Association of Australia

The Automotive Products Manufacturers Association of Australia was formed in Melbourne by S Earle and the foundation meeting was held on 24 January 1938 and by May 1939 a Sydney branch had formed. In 1946 the Federal (Executive) Council held its inaugural meeting and by this time there were branches in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. When the Federation of Automotive Products Manufacturers was formed in 1958, the APMA was affiliated with it and continued to operate and control marketing policy, while the FAPM acted on all other matters and included members from Queensland and Tasmania. THe APMA was deregistered on 29 September 1965.

Australian Wool and Meat Producers' Federation

The Australian Wool and Meat Producers' Federation was officially formed on 13 April 1939 as a federally structured body to represent Australia's woolgrowers. It was originally called the Australian Wool Producers' Federation until June 1943 when it was changed to the AWMPF. It maintained the largest membership of federal woolgrowing organisations, consisting of small graziers and sheep farmers. Its two commodity interests, wool and sheep meat, were administered by separate sub-committees. The AWMPF was amalgamated into the National Farmers Federation in 1979.

The Australian Primary Producers' Union was formed in 1944 with divisions in each State and worked towards unifying with the National Farmers' Union of Australia to form the Australian Farmers' Federation in 1969.

The Australian Vegetable Growers' Association was formed in 1946. Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council

The Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council was formed in July 1960 following a merger between the Australian Woolgrowers' Council and the Graziers' Federal Council of Australia (which had previously been the Pastoralists' Federal Council of Australia). In 1979 the Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council merged with the Australian Wool and Meat Producers' Federation, the Australian Wheatgrowers' Federation, the Australian National Cattlemen's Council, the Cattlemen's Union of Australia, the Australian Seed Producers' Federation, the Australian Vegetable Growers' Association and the Australian Farmers' Federation to form the National Farmers' Federation.

Australian Woolgrowers' Council

Formed in 1919 and registered under the Federal Arbitration and Conciliation Act, the Australian Woolgrowers' Council operated until it merged with the Graziers' Federal Council of Australia to form the Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council in 1960.

Pastoralists' Federal Council of Australia

Formed in 1891, the Pastoralists' Federal Council of Australia was renamed as the Graziers' Federal Council of Australia in 1919. New South Wales Farmers' Association

Graziers' Association of New South Wales

In October 1916, the Pastoralists' Union of New South Wales changed its name to the Graziers' Association of New South Wales. On 1 January 1978 it merged with the United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Association to form the Livestock and Grain Producers' Association of New South Wales, which in 1987 became the NSW Farmers' Association.

Pastoralists' Union of New South Wales

The Pastoralists' Union of New South Wales was formed at a meeting attended by representatives from most districts of the State on 9 July 1890. This followed an attempt two years earlier to form a sheepowners' association. Branches were set up in 1890 and district committees were appointed in 1891. The name of the organisation was changed in October 1916 to the Graziers' Association of New South Wales.

United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Association of New South Wales

The United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Association of New South Wales was formed in 1962 from a merger of the Farmers' and Settlers' Association (c. 1893) and the Wool and Wheat Growers' Association which had split from the Farmers' and Settlers' Association in 1930. In 1968 it amalgamated with the Australian Primary Producers' Union (NSW Division) and the Apple and Pear Growers' Association, and with the Vegetable Growers' Association in 1969. It was registered as the United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Industrial Association of New South Wales in 1969. On 1 January 1978 the United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Association of New South Wales merged with the Graziers' Association of New South Wales to form the Livestock and Grain Producers Association of New South Wales. The Dairy Section then split off to merge with the NSW Milk Producers' Association and the Primary Producers' Union to form the NSW Dairy Farmers' Association.

Livestock and Grain Producers' Association of New South Wales

The Livestock and Grain Producers' Association of New South Wales was formed on 1 January 1978 when the Graziers' Association of New South Wales and the United Farmers' and Woolgrowers' Association of New South Wales merged. It was renamed the NSW Farmers' Association on 1 January 1987.

The Institute of Brewing - Asia Pacific Section

The Asia Pacific Section of the Institute of Brewing was originally formed as the Australian Section of the Institute in 1952. The Section changed its name to the Australia and New Zealand Section in 1967 and in 1994 to the Asia Pacific Section. In 2001 the parent company, The Institute of Brewing, amalgamated with the International Brewers' Guild to form The Institute and Guild of Brewing. In the same year the Section was registered as a public company, The Institute and Guild of Brewing - Asia Pacific Company Limited. The IGB was superseded in January 2005 by the new name The Institute of Brewing & Distilling.

New South Wales Forest Products Association Limited

The NSW Forest Products Association, formerly named the Associated Country Sawmillers of NSW Ltd, was established in 1906 as the representative organisation of the forest and forest products industry in New South Wales. Branches are in the Upper North East, Lower North East, Western, Southern and Riverina areas of New South Wales.

Oyster Farmers' Association of New South Wales Limited

The Association's history dates back to the formation of the New South Wales Oyster Farmers’ Association in 1928. Subsequent entities included the North Coast Oyster Farmers’ Association; the Australian Oyster Farmers’ and Processors’ Association, 1980-1987; and the Oyster Farmers’ Association of Australia, 1987-1990. In 1990 the OFAA changed its name to the Oyster Farmers’ Association of New South Wales to emphasise the oyster-farming industry of NSW. At its maximum extent the OFA (NSW) encompassed thirteen geographical branches, based on regions of coastal NSW, and a single branch representing oyster processors regardless of location. The OFA (NSW) dissolved on 2 December 2005. Some of its functions were effectively taken over by the NSW Farmers Association Oyster Committee.

Sheepmeat Council of Australia

The Sheepmeat Council of Australia was formed in 1978 and is the peak national body that represents and promotes the interests of lamb and sheepmeat producers in Australia. The Council is affiliated with the National Farmers Federation and consists of nine Councillors (sheepmeat producers) who represent each sheep producing state of Australia.

Victorian Sawmillers Association

The Association, previously known as the Hardwood Millers Association of Victoria, was registered as the Victorian Sawmillers Association in 1945 under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904-1956. In 1989 the Association changed its name to the Victorian Association of Forest Industries.

Victorian Employers' Federation

The Victorian Employers' Federation was established in 1885 as the Victorian Employers' Union. From 1901 it operated as the Victorian Employers' Federation representing employers in industry and commerce. In 1991 it amalgamated with the State Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Victoria) to form the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Wool Council of Australia

The Wool Council of Australia was established in 1979. It was the peak national body representing Australia's woolgrowers on wool industry issues and was responsible for the development and implementation of woolgrower policy. In July 2001, it was replaced by WoolProducers Australia.

Chamber of Manufactures of New South Wales

In 1885, the Chamber of Manufactures of NSW was founded to lobby on behalf of its members, primarily for a better deal on tariff policies. It adopted a new constitution in 1895, maintaining a non-political stance to champion the broader interests of NSW businesses. In 1912, the Chamber of Manufactures of NSW set up the Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company (MMI). The insurance company arm was established primarily to indemnify employers against claims that might be made by their employees who were injured at work, and was in direct response to the new Workmen's Compensation Act of 1910. The Chamber continued to expand in NSW over the following years, opening offices in Newcastle, Lismore, Wollongong and Ballina. In 1995, the Chamber of Manufactures of NSW broke its tie with MMI, selling its shares of the company and changing its name to Australian Business Limited. In 2006, Australian Business Limited merged with the State Chamber of Commerce (NSW) to become Australian Business Limited (incorporating the State Chamber of Commerce) then later ABL/State Chamber. In January 2007, ABL/State Chamber changed its name to the NSW Business Chamber.

New South Wales Combined Colliery Proprietors' Association

An association of New South Wales colliery proprietors was formed in October 1905 but it was not until June 1942 that it was registered as an industrial union under the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Act as the New South Wales Combined Colliery Proprietors' Association. Its members were four separate and autonomous organisations: the Northern Colliery Proprietors' Association which dated from 1866 and operated in Sydney and Newcastle, Northern Collieries Limited representing other northern colliery proprietors, the Southern Colliery Proprietors' Association which dated from 1889 in the Burragorang Valley and the Southern Tablelands, and the Western Coal Association which was operating by 1929 in Lithgow and other western areas. The Northern, Southern and Western associations merged in 1964 under the umbrella body. The New South Wales Combined Colliery Proprietors' Association was deregistered in 1976 but continued to operate as an industry association. It was incorporated in New South Wales as the New South Wales Colliery Proprietors' Association Limited in June 1982, but was commonly known as the New South Wales Coal Association. It merged with the New South Wales Chamber of Mines in 1995 to form the NSW Minerals Council.

Printing and Allied Trades Employers Association of New South Wales

The New South Wales association was established in Sydney in 1887 as the Sydney Master Printers Association. It was allied to the national body of the Printing and Allied Trades Employers Association which formed as an amalgam around 1924. In 1971 the various state associations came together as a federation forming a branch or region of the Printing and Allied Trades Employer’s Federation of Australia (PATEFA).

Flour Millers' Council of Australia

Australian Association of National Advertisers

The Australian Association of National Advertisers was formed in 1928 when 12 advertisers met to discuss common problems and resolved to develop a voluntary code of ethics and improved media research.

Boot Trade Council of New South Wales

Boot Trade Council of New South Wales was formed in 1904 by the Boot Trade Union of New South Wales, the New South Wales Boot Operators and Rough Stuff Cutters' Union and the New South Wales Clickers' Association to deal with matters common to all three. When the three unions amalgamated to form the Australian Boot Trade Employees Federation the Council was dissolved.

Australian Chamber of Shipping

The Australian Chamber of Shipping was formed in Sydney on 3 September 1964 to represent ship owners and operators engaged in overseas, interstate and intrastate trade. Its first President was Mr S V Jones, General Manager of Blue Star Line (Australia) Pty Ltd. It is now known as Shipping Australia Limited, registered in 2001.

Australian Hotels Association

The Australian Hotels Association was founded in 1839 with branches established in each state and territory: Tasmanian branch in 1839, Victorian branch in 1843, South Australian branch in 1871, New South Wales branch in 1873, Queensland branch in 1885, Western Australian branch in 1897, Northern Territory in 1979 and an Australian Capital Territory branch of the AHA in 1994. The New South Wales Branch traces its origins back to 1873 with the formation of the Licensed Victuallers' Association of New South Wales. A second association, the City and Provincial Victuallers' Association was formed in May 1880, but wound up in May 1882. A third association, the Amalgamated Licensed Victuallers' Association was formed in 1885. In 1889 the United Licensed Victuallers Association (ULVA) of New South Wales was formed to consolidate the interests of hotelkeepers. In 1959 the ULVA became known as the NSW Branch of the Australian Hotels Association. In 1960, AHA (NSW) obtained registration as an industrial union of employers and in 1961 established its own trading company.

Australasian Steamship Owners' Federation

The Australasian Steamship Owners Federation was established in September 1899 after its predecessor, the Victorian Steamship Owners' Association, was formally wound up. The federation modelled itself on the Shipping Federation, London, and its founding members were Huddart Parker & Co, McIlwraith McEachern & Co, the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, the Australasian Steam Navigation Company, and the Adelaide Steamship Company. By 1922 branches were established in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Fremantle. The Newcastle branch was established in 1928. In 1986 the Australian National Maritime Association was formed out of the ASOF.

Australian Finance Conference

The Australian Hire Purchase Conference was established in 1958, changing its name to the Australian Hire Purchase and Finance Conference and then to the Australian Finance Conference in 1965 when it incorporated in New South Wales as a non-profit company, limited by guarantee. The AFC represents the interests and views of its member finance companies to government, conducts research on financial, economic, legal, industrial and other matters affecting the membership, issues regular AFC Notices on current market, legal or legislative developments, and maintains a nationwide education program to encourage a greater awareness of money management.

Customs Agents' Association of New South Wales

The association representing barrier clearance and cargo transport service providers in New South Wales was formed from the Customs Agents and Transport Association of New South Wales in 1904. Representation of the industry extended to the National level in 1954 with the formation of the Customs Agents' Federation of Australia and the Customs Agents Institute of Australia in 1960. In 1991 the Customs Agents' Federation of Australia and the Customs Agents Institute of Australia merged to form the then Customs Brokers Council of Australia Inc.

Association of Employers of Waterside Labour

The Association of Employers of Waterside Labour was an organisation of waterfront employers, comprising Australian shipping owners and the various stevedoring companies around Australia. They were responsible for supplying labour to ports and terminals and acted as the representative of employers in discussions with the Waterside Workers Federation. The AEWL became inactive as a registered organisation from 1995 when it underwent liquidation, being deregistered on 23 January 2006.

Grains Council of Australia

The Grains Council of Australia was the peak body of the Australian grains industry until it closed in 2010. It supported research and development and was committed to promoting the uptake of technologies and practices to enhance environmental sustainability, benefit the economic interests of Australian Grain Growers and lead to the enrichment of Regional Australia.

The Grains Council was officially wound up on 30 June 2010. Grain Producers Australia (GPA) now represents Australia's broadacre, grain, pulse and oilseed producers at the national level.

Metal Trades Employers' Association

The Metal Trades Employers' Association dates its history to the formation of the Iron Trades Employers' Association in Sydney in December 1873, after a general strike in the iron trades over the 8-hour day. In 1901 the Association registered under the New South Wales Industrial Arbitration Act and in 1921 changed its name to the Metals Trades Employers' Association. In April 1970 it merged with the Metal Industries Association (Victoria) to form the Metal Trades Industry Association of Australia.

Queensland Chamber of Manufactures

The growth of manufacturing activity in the late 19th century led to the formation of the Queensland Chamber of Manufactures in 1899. The Chamber of Manufactures continued to represent its constituency until the mid 1970s, when the end of the long post-war boom and the confluence of a number of other national and international economic influences led the Queensland Chamber of Manufactures, the Queensland Employers´ Federation, the North Queensland and Central Queensland Employers´ Associations and the Mackay Employers´ Federation to merge in 1976 to form the Queensland Confederation of Industry [QCI]. QCI merged with the State Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Queensland) and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce in 1994 to form the Queensland Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ltd [QCCI]. In April 2001, QCCI re-launched itself as Commerce Queensland.

Victorian Chamber of Manufactures

In 1877 a 'Manufacturers and Exhibitors Association' was formed in Melbourne. In August 1881 it became 'The Victorian Chamber of Manufacturers'. It was an unincorporated association until 1922 when it incorporated under the Victorian Companies Act, and was registered in 1941 federally under the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Act. On 8 February 1985 the VCM became the Australian Chamber of Manufacturers and registered as an organisation of employers under the Commonwealth Industrial Relations Act at the same time. The ACM affiliated with the Chamber of Manufacturers of NSW in 1987 but this was short-lived and the merger ended in 1991. The ACM then opened offices in Sydney and Canberra. The Chamber services about 150 industry sections and associations as well as groups associated with manufacturing and is available to advise on various matters and acts as an advocacy group.

Motor Traders Association of New South Wales

Founded in 1910 but registered federally in 1935, the Motor Traders' Association of New South Wales [MTA] represents owners and business principals in the automotive industry throughout NSW. With over 6000 members and affiliates, the MTA is one of the largest state-based industry associations in Australia. The MTA is also a founder member of the Motor Trades Association of Australia - the federal body which draws together MTA's sister organisations in other states and territories to represent the industry at Federal Government level.

Maritime Industry Australia Limited

Maritime Industry Australia Ltd has existed in various guises, with its genesis as the Australasian Steamship Owners Federation (ASOF) formed in 1899, closely followed in 1905 by industrial body, the Commonwealth Steamship Owners Association (CSOA). In 1986 ASOF became the Australian National Maritime Association (ANMA) which merged with CSOA in 1994 to become the Australian Shipowners Industrial Association (ASIA). ASIA underwent a name change in 1996 to become the Australian Shipowners Association (ASA). In early 2015 ASA became Maritime Industry Australia Limited (MIAL).

Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association

On 11 July 1905 the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association was formed and registered under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act to assume the industrial responsibilities of the Australasian Steamship Owners' Federation. The two bodies were identical in composition but differed in function, the ASOF dealing with matters pertaining to the Navigation Act and the CSOA handling industrial disputes, awards, and representing shipping companies in matters before the Arbitration Court.

Australian Sugar Producers' Association

Began in 1907 as an association of farmers and millers known then as the Australian Sugar Producers Association. In 1987 the company decided that the milling half would split off to form the Australian Sugar Milling Council, while the farming half was renamed the Australian Cane Farmers Association (ACFA).
