Extent and medium
The wooden splashboard or breakwater, located at the front of a canoe, is designed to deflect excessive water from entering the canoe. It is decorated with carved spiritual motifs, which include people and birds. At the top of the splashboard are two large lobes in a configuration resembling a figure-of-eight. The scroll patterns are derived from the head and beak of the frigate bird.
