This material derives mainly from S J Butlin's term as a Professor in the Economic History Department at ANU and is concerned with his work on Australian monetary and banking history and the history of the Reserve Bank of Australia. It includes research notes from letter books, correspondence and other material of the Bank of Australasia (1835-1951), the Bank of South Australia (1837-1892) and the Union Bank of Australia (1840-1951) and other banks, copies of documents from parliamentary papers and other sources in envelopes, card indexes, microfilms of original material and printed material including annual reports of banks, pamphlets and books. Also includes files relating to the formation and operations of the Economics Society of Australia (1928-1955).
