Papers relating to the 1982 Gas Price Arbitration Case between Alliance Petroleum Australia & Others (Producers) and the Australian Gas Light Company (AGL). Professor Gruen served as a special arbitrator on the case with Mr R L Hunter QC and the broad issues of the case include the terms of operation of the 1971 Agreement ( with amendments) between the parties, and the question of the Producers' entitlement to an adjustment in price 'on the basis of the changed value of the subject sales gas'. The papers include transcripts of proceedings, exhibits and submissions, reports, agreements and printed material.
Material relating to the 1986 Review of the Customs Tariff (Anti-Dumping) Act (1975), including the final report (March 1986), draft reports, submissions, printed material and miscellaneous working papers. In February 1986 Senator Button (then Minister for Industry, Technology & Commerce) requested Professor Gruen, as as an economic advisor to the Federal Government, to conduct a review of the Customs Tariff (Anti-Dumping) Act 1975. Gruen's brief was to examine the Act and its administration in order to determine the need for improvements and suggest appropriate changes. Professor Gruen was also instructed to examine the merits of the inclusion of a National Interest Clause into the Act.
Material related to the 1984 Panel of Review of the proposed Income and Assets Test comprising documents circulated to panel members, miscellaneous working papers and printed material, some with annotations. Professor Gruen served as chairman for the Panel of Review. It also contains a Transcript of Evidence (Draft) and Submissions made to the Panel's supervising body, The Senate Standing Committee.

This collection consists of a bound volume of papers and glass lantern slides and negatives. The volume includes instructions to competitors in the 1911 Federal Capital Design Competition, the report of the Federal Capital Designs Board and other parliamentary papers relating to Walter Burley Griffin’s winning design, including correspondence relating to AJ Macdonald’s temporary transfer ‘to assist Mr Griffin’, and reports of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works on ‘Dams for Ornamental Waters – Canberra’ and the erection of the Provisional Parliament House, Canberra. The lantern slides are of AJ Macdonald’s entry (no. 9) in the Federal Capital Design Competition which was one of the 46 short-listed designs (see www.idealcity.org.au/competition-3-shortlist-46.html). The lantern slides (8 x 8 cm) are: •Drawing 1, Map of Contour Survey of the Site •Drawing 2, Perspective view overlooking the Administrative Centre Two additional lantern slides labelled A and B relate to another project for a site south of the Flinders Street station in Melbourne.
