Copies of Russian documents on North Vietnamese reports and related correspondence

The two reports are English-language reports sourced from Russia. One is the report of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, General-Lieutenant Chan Van Kuang (Tran Van Quang) at the Politburo session, 15 Sep 1972. The other is by Hoang Anya, Central Committee Secretary, 20th Plenary Session, Dec 1970 - Jan 1971. The authenticity of the two reports is in dispute. The file includes correspondence between David Marr and Jay Veith regarding these documents and American prisoners of war held by North Vietnam.

Vietnam policy and operations, US to May 1963

Material largely consists of news clippings. Includes 'A Profile of NIA Students, ' from the Michigan State University Viet-Nam Advisory Group, Jul 1961. The NIA (National Institute of Administration) was the primary source of recruitment for the Vietnamese civil administration.

USMC / Vietnam before 1962

Main item is a practice exercise from the US Army Intelligence School for US military intervention in Vietnam. This was sent to the Indochina Resource Center in 1974. Other material consists of academic articles; Zimmerman reviewing 'David M. DRV (North Vietnam) - 1964

Material largely consists of Fleet Marine Force, Pacific briefings, documents, and research notes on North Vietnamese and Chinese organisation and military . Also includes some photographs, news clippings, and articles.

Vietnam: 1945 (1997) book notes, Deer Team, Allison Thomas, Charles Fenn - correspondence, photographs, some news clippings

Includes material donated by Allison Thomas and Charles Fenn. Allison Thomas led the US "Deer Team". The team parachuted into French Indochina to train insurgents to fight the occupying Japanese army. Charles Fenn was also an Officer of the Strategic Service during World War II and became friends with Ho Chi Minh, later writing a biography of him.

Vietnam: 1945 (1997) book notes, Hu? - research notes, papers, DRVN publications

Material includes academic papers, a 1970-1 bibliography, early publications of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. These last consist of 'The Democratic Republic of Viet-Nam,' from the Viet-Nam Delegation in France, 1948, which includes the consitution and declaration of independence of the Republic; and a declaration from Bao-Dai called 'Happiness to the Vietnamese people!'
