Administrative history

Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort and Co Ltd was registered in Adelaide, South Australia, in April 1962. It was formed by the amalgamation of Elder Smith and Company Limited and Goldsbrough Mort and Company Limited. This company continued until December 1981 when it merged with Henry Jones (IXL) Limited. The name of the new company changed to Elders IXL on 4 February 1982

This deposit contains 2 hand coloured lithographs by Fergusson and Mitchell of R Goldsbrough and Company Limited warehouses in Sydney and Melbourne. There are also 20 watercolours by John C Goodchild of Elders Limited properties in Australia and London. There is also a watercolour by Goodchild of the birthplace of Alexander Lang Elder in Kircaldy, Scotland.
